Valentia: A miracle or a mistake?

Valentia: A miracle or a mistake?

I thought I was in love once.
And then later I thought maybe it was just an inner ear imbalance…
In the end I realized I’d learned two things:
The first is… that it’s easier to think you’re in love than it is to accept that you’re alone;
and the second is that it’s very easy to confuse love with subatomic particles bursting in the air.
Well, I also learned that I should have my ears checked more regularly.

The Money Shop

[Bell rings as customer enters shop]

Assistant: Ah good morning sir, welcome to The Money Shop. How might I help you?

Customer: Why thank you - I’m looking to buy some money actually.

Assistant: Delightful to hear that sir - and we’ve had just a fresh batch in this morning!

Might I enquire how much you were looking to purchase?

Customer: Oh, I was thinking somewhere in the region of sixty, maybe sixty-five pounds?

Assistant: Some wise and esteemed amounts there sir, if ever I heard them.

Might sir be persuaded to settle for the sixty-five?

Customer: Yes why not - it is the weekend after all.

Assistant: But of course!

[Assistant runs transaction through the till]

And that will be, let me see - sixty-five pounds please.

Customer: Here you go.

Assistant: Thank you sir; here is your sixty-five pounds in return.

Good day to you now sir!

Customer: I prefer au-revoir. Au-revoir!

Hoist the flag!

Oh come away on a big adventure;

Come set sail on a big adventure;

Come with us on a big adventure;

With the Pirate Captain.

There’s grog and ghosts and whales and lepers;

Biscuits, nudists, and some dentures;

Ham and gold and girls with tempers;

And the Pirate Captain.

There’s a fish in a hat and the last dodo;

With a roarin’ and a yo-ho;

Charles Darwin and his monkey Bobo;

And the Pirate Captain.

This is a film about a pirate sailor;

And we’re singin’ in the trailer;

We hope you buy a ticket,

‘Cause if you ruddy ‘nick it,

We’ll tell the Pirate Captain!

This is the only time a video of the Space Shuttle docked with the ISS will be made, before the shuttles are decommissioned.

I find it eerily breathtaking.

“It is fasiohable to suggest,” she wrote; “that cyberspace is some island of the blessed, where people are free to indulge and express their individuality.
This is not true.
I have seen many people spill out their emotions, their guts online. And I did so myself, until I began to see that I had commodified myself.

Commodification means that you turn something into a product which has a money value.
In the 19th Century, commodities were made in factories by workers who were mostly exploited.

But I created my interior thoughts as commodities, for the corporations that owned the board that I was posting to.
Like CompuServe, or AOL. And that commodity was then sold on to other consumer entities, as entertainment.

Cyberspace,” she wrote “is a black hole. It absorbs energy and personality, and then represents it as an emotional spectacle.
It is done by businesses that commodify human interaction and emotion. And we are getting lost in the spectacle.”
